As a front-runner in the furniture design field, Zuiver feels it’s our responsibility to minimise our environmental and social footprint by exploring alternative materials and production methods. Last year, we sold over 350,000 products worldwide. Every single product we design and sell has some connection to natural resources.

“When we design, we design for the future - not only in how our products look, but also the wider impact they have. We need to rethink the decisions we are currently making when it comes to natural resources. As a mum of three, I want my children and future grandchildren to grow up in the same world as I did.”

Caroline van Velze, Creative Director

First steps

We are not a sustainable brand. Up until now, Zuiver has taken the first steps towards sustainability. We introduced the first sustainable product designs in our collection. In 2019, we presented our Thirsty chair, made of upcycled PET bottles. In 2021, we introduced a new conscious edition of our iconic Albert Kuip chair series, a bioplastic version containing 45% coffee residue, and the Good Plastic Desk in collaboration with The Good Plastic Company. Recently we launched The Ocean Chair, made of 100% ocean plastic. You can recognise our sustainable product designs by the Zuiver Sustainable logo.

Hello 2030

However, this is just the beginning. In 2030 we want to cut back the use of virgin materials in our collection significantly and entirely replace them with recycled and renewable alternatives. We are ready to make new choices to treat our planet with the utmost respect it deserves. We believe that every step towards the goal counts just as much as the goal itself – and it’s this progress that’s one of our continued points of focus. Our brand got its name from the Dutch word for “pure”, and it’s with a pure (or transparent) sensibility that we begin our ongoing journey towards sustainability. Follow our website to be part of this journey.

Quality

Sustainability for us also means quality, durable and long-lasting products. The longer our products last, the lesser the need there is to replace them. We not only select environmentally friendly materials to ensure optimal durability, which strengthens the product. But to ensure our products stand the test of time, we actively review our customers feedback to reduce and prevent future problems or defects. Our customers are the ones who are closest to our products in the long run, so we go to them first as we value their opinions, experience and honest feedback.

Shared Responsibility

Our manufactures are located all over the world. From Europe – i.e. the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Poland- to South-Asia – i.e. China, India and Vietnam. We are very critical and only work with manufacturers who respect human rights. They are non-negotiable for us. We have binding agreements in our "Code of Conduct" with all our manufacturers to create a safe working environment that respects the human and labour rights of their employees. They commit to being good employers in terms of workers' rights, proper payment and working conditions, and compliance with local labour standards through audits in factories. It is a partnership of mutual respect and trust. We work very closely together and often visit the factories ourselves and through specialised agencies.

Zuiver Interior Group goals

Zuiver is part of the Zuiver Interior Group, a Dutch interior company. ‘Spot on Responsibility’ is our internal roadmap towards a responsible future for our company. The plan is based on the seventeen sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UNESCO, 2015), a global compass for the challenges of poverty, education and the climate crisis. The goals below will be initiated within and achieved by our entire brand portfolio by 2030: 49% less CO2 emissions compared to 1990, significant reduction in virgin resources, fully recyclable and recycled packaging for all our brands, product origin passport and material source information, excellent working conditions for all of our manufacturers’ workers, repair service and refurbishing program.
