Take a seat for the Big Blue

Every year, 300 million tonnes of plastic waste are produced worldwide. It is a well-known fact that much of this plastic waste ends up in our beloved oceans - 8 million tonnes a year to be precise. We believe we have a responsibility to our oceans to do better, for a better and sustainable future. That's why we started a collaboration with studio APE to design a chair made of 100% ocean plastic.

Clean design, clean oceans

"From the coast of Malaysia to your living room: the seat is made from plastic waste that made its way to our oceans, collected from beaches and riverbanks, among other places. The frame is made of steel, which is 100% recyclable. With its light and organic silhouette and various solid colours, this chair fits perfectly into any interior."

Ocean Bound Plastic

After careful research, we decided to use ocean bound plastic (OBP). This is abandoned plastic waste that is on its way to our oceans. It is collected from beaches, riverbanks, etc. up to 50 km from our oceans. OBP is not broken down or degraded like ocean plastic, which sometimes floats in the sea for decades. Therefore, this plastic waste passes the strict quality and safety tests.

100% transparency

To increase awareness and transparency about the project, each chair has a QR code on the product label with the exact location where the plastic waste was collected. In this way, we hope to increase awareness and make the problem less abstract. Zuiver is ready to make new choices to treat our planet with the highest respect and to minimise our ecological footprint.
